tasklog
— 10/29 ~4pm
- wrote this process list
- wrote and sent email to the organizer to discuss my ideas
- made some slides explaining the different options I'm thinking of

— 11/4 ~1pm
- started making the calendar layout in Canva! I got through a couple months and played around with how I want to layout the day grid. I think I want to print a copy to get a better sense of sizing, since it's hard to tell on the screen.
— 11/6 11am, 6pm
- went to the venue and had a quick meeting with the organizer to plan things out
- did some magazine flipping and started ripping out pages for people to browse
- also, they asked for a photo of me to include on flyers, and I didn't really like any I had, so I made a little digital collage portrait! It is now my profile photo on YouTube and Instagram.
— 11/7 ~4pm
- worked on a description and drafted a recap email outlining event details
— 11/15 ~12:14am
- I started making a slideshow of artists + collage inspiration for the event. So far, I've added 13 artists. I'm trying to add artists from a variety of ethnicities, so it's been fun but feels like quite a lot of internet sleuthing.
— 12/27 ~9:05pm
This is embarrassing; it's over a month later and I'm just now getting around to updating. And at this point, I could try to back-fill with when things happened and got done, but I don't think that's super valuable. Instead, here's some reflection and notes and photos!!
Overall, I'm really happy and proud with how this went. It was an open studio event, which meant people came and went, so I don't have a clear count of how many people participated. I think it was around a dozen or so people? There were definitely more people who came, but there were other arts and crafts happening at the same time. I also ended up reaching out to another community center nearby and scheduled another round there.
I got a little too sucked into contributing to the collages, so I don't feel like I played host as much as I would have liked, but it still felt good overall. I got to chat with a handful of folks and one couple even told me that they were really excited to hear about the idea.
The one lil hiccup was that we all got caught up collaging and I didn't think to start printing until 30ish minutes before the end of the event (iirc). We somehow did manage to print them all, but there was no hope in binding them that same night. Instead, I planned to return and bind with the event coordinator of the space, but instead ended up bringing the calendars home to bind myself (which I still need to do).
Oh wait, one other lil hiccup - we couldn't get their projector to work, so my powerpoint ended up playing on a small laptop screen instead.

— 1/4 ~10:25pm
- Just finished binding the last of the calendars! I ended up doing a split wire binding to make space for a hole in the middle to use for hanging. Idk if it's my machine or the wire I bought, but some of them didn't close into neat little circles and ended up looking more like "D"s ):
- Overall though, I'm super happy with how they turned out! There's so much to look for and see in the different months, and I hope folks love them, even if they're getting them a little late.
